Meet The Couple

Rav Daniel & Jasmine Peled-Schwartz

Rav Daniel and Jasmine share a passion for Torah and community building, and are excited to serve the Columbia/Barnard community as JLIC co-directors! Daniel grew up in Newton, MA. He learned at Yeshivot Maale Adumim and Har Etzion and then studied philosophy and Arabic at Princeton. Daniel recently completed his rabbinical studies (semicha) at RIETS after learning on YU’s campuses in New York and Jerusalem. Daniel loves hiking, skiing, and nerding out about public transportation. Jasmine grew up in Los Angeles and then went to Princeton, where she studied computer science and philosophy. After graduating, she moved to Washington, DC where she worked for the Department of Defense and then in tech. Jasmine has spent the last two years learning Torah at Yeshivat Drisha and Nishmat. They are very genuine about their experiences and make an effort to meet students where the student is at.
Both Rav Daniel and Jasmine have been critical sources for guidance, both religious and personal, for me. Additionally, they are models of moral behavior for me.
They are always there for us! Scheduling chats to catch up and check in and make us feel heard.
They have made an effort to engage with students in the Orthodox community from all backgrounds, not just those who came back from one or two years in seminary/yeshiva. I have seen how that has impacted the religious growth of so many on campus.
JLIC and Hillel have been the saviors of my college experience. The Jewish community is the best thing about this school.
It is so clear to us how genuinely they want to get to know us all! It doesn’t go unnoticed how they care to help without overstepping. The Shiurim are so meaningful and really impact me!
